Dermal Fillers - Juvederm®, Saphya, Teosyal Belotero

Feeling like you're starting to look older but not quite sure why? Are you noticing some sagging, or that your youthful fullness has decreased? Looking for a more defined jaw, or fuller lips?

Decreased production of hyaluronic acid and collagen in your body over time results in a loss of volume and elasticity in your skin. The effects are more sagging and wrinkling particularly in the cheeks, around the nose and lower face. Dermal fillers restore volume, re-contour your face and revitalize your skin - giving you a natural and more youthful appearance.

These fillers are all hyaluronic acid based. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is found naturally in the body. As we age, we begin to lose fat, collagen, elastin and bone, which causes sagging and folds. Dermal fillers are injected in the areas that we lose volume, to re-establish the foundation of your face, and restore that volume loss. The effects of hyaluronic acid dermal filler is seen immediately, and has been shown to stimulate the body's own collagen production, making it an extremely valuable treatment in the short-term as well as the long-term.

Further to anti-aging, dermal fillers are an amazing way to non-surgically enhance the facial structure. Whether it's the lips, nose, jawline, or chin, dermal fillers can be the solution to achieving your desired facial aesthetic with almost no down-time.

Additional Information

Are dermal fillers safe?

Yes, they have been approved by Health Canada and the FDA; and qualified Dermatologists have treated millions of people around the world safely and effectively.

How long do fillers last?

The initial treatment typically lasts between 12-18 months depending on many factors including age, lifestyle and skin type. Dermal fillers are biodegradable, which means they will naturally disappear in the body over time. For optimal results, we recommend maintenance treatments about every 6-12 months.

Who does the treatment?

Dr. Taraska or one of her trained nurses can do the injections. It's your choice - they are all highly qualified to do the injections. You should always seek dermal fillers in an appropriate medical setting from a qualified, licensed, trained physician. Don't be afraid to ask the doctor about her qualifications and experience. We, at Victoria Park Medispa (The Derm Centre), won't be afraid to answer them.

Is the treatment painful?

A very small needle is used with minimal discomfort experienced by most clients. No anesthesia is necessary. Patients do not mind some small needle pokes as the results are worth it!

What areas can be treated?

The most common treatment areas are:

  • Temples & Between the Eyebrows(Glabella)
  • Cheeks
  • Nose to mouth lines (Nasolabial folds)
  • Mouth smile lines
  • Frown lines, corner of the mouth toward chin (Marionette lines)
  • Lips/Lip Lines

Who should not get Dermal Filler Treatments

  • People with infection at or near the proposed injection site.
  • Children under the age of 18 years.
  • Women who are pregnant or breast feeding.
  • People on immunosuppressants

During Treatment

First, the area being treated will be cleansed; and an anesthetic cream will be applied to decrease discomfort if desired. The dermal filler is then injected into the skin in small amounts using a very fine needle. The filler provides an immediate result - restoring a natural and more youthful look to your skin - adding volume, smoothing away lines and wrinkles, and enhancing facial shape. The procedure will take about 30 minutes.

After Treatment

After a treatment, you may experience slight redness, swelling, itching, bruising and tenderness, which may last up to two days. You will be able to feel the filler. This is normal and can last up to 6 weeks until the water binds to the filler, and smooths naturally in your skin. Feeling a lump or bump is normal, but if you see an a lump or bump, then you can return to Victoria Park Medispa (The Derm Centre) so we can mold it for you. If it is your first treatment, we normally recommend a follow up appointment in one to two weeks, so that we can review any concerns or questions that you may have following the procedure.
