Melasma - Brown Patches

Melasma is caused by an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces skin colour, in certain areas which results in patches of skin becoming darker than the surrounding skin. It is caused by a variety of factors including genetics, sun exposure, and hormonal factors. Melasma is also known as the "pregnancy mask", when hormone fluctuations during pregnancy cause it. Luckily, there are treatments available to even out the skin, creating a fresh, and more even skin tone.
